In the skies above the Atlantic

I’m lying in bed. It’s one in the morning and I can’t sleep. Skype is open, the solid black window that provides me a peak at what it is like on the other side of the world. My boyfriend sleeps in the pure darkness. Soon the light will creep in through his window and slowly the black will slither away, giving me a glimpse of a leg, an arm, a toe. It is nearly six in the morning in Belgium.

So much food, so little time

Well, it’s almost time to go back to Halifax for my preflight visit. I’ll be arriving in the evening on the 3rd and leaving in the morning on the 6th. That gives me some time to run around in my current favourite city.

I lived in Dartmouth for a couple years, which is right across the harbour from Halifax. When you live in a place long enough there are certain things you just grow to love and on this trip I plan on taking in as much of that love as possible. Continue reading

Oh brain, you’re a cruel mistress

The closer it gets to the trip the more terrified I’m getting. It’s really starting to sink in that I start on the road in a week and a half and get on the plane in a little less than two weeks. I’ve been waiting anxiously for this to come but now my nervousness is causing me to be a slight basket case. Continue reading

Also turns out that I get to spend five days in one of these domes. Friends, welcome to Center Parcs.

I’ve never been the kind of girl to count the months or get overly publicly emotional, but I guess that’s just another way my life has changed. Sometimes you just meet someone worth counting for.

And then I filled it with COOKIES

I took the time today to repack and make a list of all the things I’ve got shoved (delicately) into my suitcase. The only things not listed are the items in my carry-on, the clothes I’ll be wearing on the plane and the gifts that are a giant secret surprise. These things could all fit into a shoebox, so they’re not a big use of space.

Now that everyone knows..

Last week I announced officially that I would be going to Belgium for three months. For those of you who are just joining me on the blog, welcome! As you can see, I’ve been planning this for quite a while.

As exciting as it was to know I was going to be traveling the world, it was very important to me that I keep it a secret. I don’t come from a wealth of money and I was afraid that if my employer found out ahead of time, I would lose the hours I was getting. The last thing I needed was to announce I was going only to find out in the end that I couldn’t afford it.
